The game does not lack a variety of oceanic trenches and underwater cave systems, which are separate locations. Exploration itself takes place not only horizontally, but also vertically. Almost the entire game world is oceans, so taking care of oxygen resources is just as important as satisfying the hero’s hunger and thirst. For this typical scheme, Subnautica adds some original elements. As the game progresses, players unlock additional facilities, such as small vehicles or the ability to create their own bases, allowing them to venture into more distant and dangerous locations. So they have to find basic resources and create tools that will meet the most important needs of the hero. According to the traditions of survivali, players start with modest equipment, insufficient to survive in a foreign environment, and thus discourage the hasty exploration.

Players must survive in a world inhabited by a variety of creatures (from small fish to giant beasts), creating a living ecosystem.

The gameplay in Subnautica does not differ much from the schemes known from other survival productions.
